5 Ways to Improve Your Well Being and Delight the Soul
Learning how to improve your happiness isn’t the easiest task in the world, but it also isn’t the hardest. It takes effort, discipline and often courage, but when you get into a routine, everything flows seamlessly.
I’ve gone from seriously unhappy to fascinatingly content with life. I feel good. I smile more and in general, I love life. Life will always throw curve balls at you, but when you have a solid foundation to stand on, you can often handle any situation, or at least know that you will be okay in the end.
You and I, we’re different, so not all of these will work for you, but I hope some of them do. These are directly from my personal experience. Enjoy!
1. Do Good
When you give, you feel great. The ways you can give are practically unlimited. You can help your grandmother with her groceries or travel and volunteer in another country. We as humans want to give back. We want to help, but often life comes in the way.
Make time for giving, because it makes a difference. If you don’t have time to volunteer, you can always contribute by smiling at strangers on the street. One smile can have a big impact.
2. Be Kind to Yourself
I’m a workaholic, which means I don’t reward myself much. I love what I do, because I’m finally at the point in my life where I am following my passion and doing what I love, day in and day out.
When I do take a day off and reward myself, I come back refreshed and energized, with much better ideas and more flow. If you’re like me, remember to set a schedule for when it’s you-time.
3. Take Responsibility
It’s easy to whine and complain. I’m sure you know a few people that find excuses. They want the dream life, but they aren’t willing to do anything to get there.
When you take responsibility and accept where you are, you can start moving towards what you really want. Stop thinking of why not and start thinking of how. If you ask yourself why you can’t do something, you’ll get the answer, so make sure you ask the right question and take massive action.
What you consume has a bigger impact on your mood than you may at first realize. For example, did you know that omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fatty fish, can help raise serotonin levels in the brain? Serotonin is basically a naturally occurring anti-depressant. This is just one example. If your body does not have all the nutrients it needs, bad stuff will happen.
So what should you do? In order to keep this simple: eat whole, fresh foods as much as possible and avoid processed, fast, sugary, fatty and in general, happiness-destroying foods. They may be delicious, but they are malicious.
Let’s face it, without purpose it’s easy to feel confused and frustrated. If you don’t know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, life is not going to feel as fulfilling as it could. Finding your passion in life can be hard, but if you keep trying and doing your best, you will eventually find something that fits. For me, it’s not so much about finding the one passion in my life, as much as it is about doing something I really love right now, in the moment.
