We keep in touch with relatives in other countries by using Skype. We don't even have long distance calling on our phones so Skype is the best way to reach them.

We have two daughters each that did a semester abroad. International phone service wasn't in our budget, but we actually communicated more while they were in Europe than when they were on their US campus! Using an Itouch, they could Skype anytime they had access to free internet. My favorite experience was when our daughter Skyped the Olympic torch parade in London. She was standing just outside the entrance to the subway, I mean "tube", which has free public internet access. Talk about the next best thing to being there!!! We got tours of many places they visited, street views from internet cafes, and detailed visits from their Oxford campus....all real time. It was awesome and best of all-free!554

It's easy to save with Skype! Computer to Computer calls are free (which is what I do the majority of) and you can even call landlines for better rates than the phone company! With Skype there's really no need for a landline :)

I was gifted stocks on the London Exchange so I've used skype to call London a few times. I already had skype and it was much simpler than finding a calling card or alternate service.

I use Skype to contact my sons at home when we travel to Europe. Our cell plan is very expensive for international travel and sometimes does not work.

We haven't recently, but I loved to save money on talking to my husband when he was over seas. It was nice to have the option of voice as well as video chat- sometimes the connection wasn't good enough for video but I still loved to get his phone calls. Now we really only communicate with people stateside and just use our cell phones with unlimited minutes.

I use Skype to save money on international calls. I often interview people from other countries for my work. It costs much less to use Skype to call China or Europe than it does to use a landline or a cell phone. Plus, with Skype free when I call other Skype users in Canada, it makes keeping up with my Canadian friends and clients super-inexpensive.

I live overseas temporarily and don't own a smartphone so to keep in touch, I adapt to the time difference. I set up an 'open line' Sunday evenings with Skype open. While I do laundry and clean in my apt., I get surprise calls from everyone! Predictably, my parents and best friends call in, too so sometimes we get to do group chat!

I also work in freelance, so I set up a separate Skype account with my professional title and organize calls with clients or - if necessary-buy Skype credit to call their cell phone or landline. It's easy to call anywhere with it!

Skype has saved me so much money thoughout the years because it has allowed me to call friends and family internationally. I went from having to throw down upwards of $50 dollars here and there just to buy those calling cards that I would quickly burn through. However, it is has done so much more than just save money. It has saved me in moments where I need to contact someone as soon as possible and I can't find my phone. It has saved me heartache when I can't be with my loved ones by facilitating face to face communication. I could go on and on. The most significant memory I have is getting the chance to Skype with my 100 year old grandmother. I will never ever forget that. It was both comical and touching to be able to talk to her thousands of miles away. Skype might save money but most importantly it allows for real human moments to be shared.

Skype is absolutely how we stay connected with our family and friends across the US and the world. Our little girl is able to see her grandparents and cousins. It's wonderful and will continue to be so important as a possible long-distance relocation is pending. Also, being able to make calls and have a local number as well is essential to keeping our cell phone bills within their plan limits.

My husband left to work in the UAE and since I am in the middle of my studies I could not join. Having just begun our lives, long distance calls are really expensive for our meager budgets and it is Skype that helps us keep in touch on a daily basis. Plus via Skype I have been able to connect with some old friends I would never get to see otherwise

Skype saves me money by helping me stay in touch with friends and family in other countries. It is easy to use and really helps to stay within budget.

Guest's picture

I saved a lot of money by not having to pay for long distance. We have used @skype to contact our relatives in Hong Kong and China, since my grandma lives here in the US, she likes to keep in touch and talk for hours with relatives there. I'd be scared to see what the bill would look like if we had to pay. I also saved cellphone minutes and data since I can just Skype with my wife and family when I'm away on a business trip or at work. I found @skype to be reliable and fast, and getting in touch with people is so much easier.

We also use Skype when my husband is gone for school! Being in Alaska, any long distance call is too much money! We love Skype!

Anytime you need your family and friEnds. They are just Skype away.
I connect to my mom and sister in India just for their smile and for their anguish that I am staying away from them.it's just what technology does to people. I talk to them for more than hour on a weekend.

And you know how awesome mothers are... With just a glimpse of eyes and sound of your voice, they can tell that you are happy, sad, hiding secret that's the clarity the skype gives out along with emotions.
Thanks to technology and thanks to Skype. Now I do all my sisters marriage plan on Skype.

90% of my family & friends live outside of US that's why @skype is our go to when it comes to talking, chatting & video skyping. i have been a happy user for 10yrs coz they allow me to be close to my family & friends without spending too much money - all i have to do is have a wifi (monthly fee is not that bad or use FREE wifi when i am outside) compared to overseas call @skype is definitely the tool to use coz i can share every special moments w/ my family & friends & not worry bout how expensive my bill will be.
btw. skype also is a great way to use to communicate with my husband when he is out of town for work & not use any minutes on my phone = huge savings on my phone bill!
