Windy Buhler forwarded us some frugal living tips:
I love your site...since I am a struggling writer and live a frugal, (now sexy) life. Here are a few of my own tips for your consideration to post on the site.
Tip #1
Walk instead of drive...to the store, library, lunch, post office...wherever you can, instead of driving. It's better for your health and you just might meet someone interested or interesting on the way.
Tip #2
Add a little water instead of milk to your eggs/omelet. Makes a lighter, less runny outcome and saves milk money...:)
Tip #3
Organize your errand outings logistically and geographically before you get in the car, so you can make several stops all in one trip out...instead of driving to one place on one day, another the next or backtracking.
Tip #4
Buy all of your breads, cheese, nuts, chocolates, and wines at Trader Joe's if you can. A much more affordable and delectable option than higher priced grocery/specialty shops.
Tip #5
Open your gifts carefully. That way you can reuse the ribbon, bows and wrapping paper. It's a great way to save a tree and a little extra wrapping expense.
Tip #6
Check out Netflix instead of Blockbuster. For $11.00 a month, you can get up to 8-9 movies, averaging $1.40 per movie, instead of $5.00 per movie.
Tip #7
Check out your local used book stores for recent best sellers. Current retail for hard backs range from $25.95 to $35.99. With a little research, you can usually find the same book, within a reasonable waiting period for 30%-50% less and help your local small business.
These are just a few of the little tips/tricks I employ in my everyday "frugal" life. Hope you find them useful.
