If you find yourself balking at the thought of the price tag associated with the fancy outfits, elaborate family dinners, and giant neighborhood egg hunts that come with the holiday, chill out. There are plenty of cheap and fun things to do for Easter, including making your own Easter crafts instead of spending too much at the store. Here are a handful of simple ones to get you started. 1. Holiday Photo Shoot

Not all Easter crafts have to be kitschy. Use your digital camera to shoot Easter themed images that you can either print and frame as an Easter craft, or compile into a slideshow you can display in a digital photo frame. Examples include tulips, fluffy farm chicks running in the grass, or as one Wise Bread writer mentions in this article featuring creative uses for peeps, posing themed holiday candy in creative ways and locations.

2. Simple Centerpieces

There's no need to dig out the hot glue gun or make a tower out of dyed eggs in order to decorate the table for your holiday meal. This Easter grass centerpiece from Your Home-Based Mom is grown from seed in a galvanized steel container. It looks fresh, fun, and perfect for a casual menu of breakfast casseroles and a tea bar.

3. Decorating Eggs

I love those elaborate bejeweled creations as much as the next chick, but who has the time? These designer speckled eggs from Reader's Digest are unique, and they provide an attractive end result even for those whose painterly skills stop at sponge painting. Wrapping solid-color Easter eggs with a band of striped ribbon provides a clean, mod look, or you could use rubber bands to create color patterns between dye jobs.

4. DIY Baskets

You don't have to be a master basket weaver to create your own for the holiday. This popsicle stick basket from Frugal Upstate is one of the easiest Easter crafts I've seen, and it can easily be created during an afternoon.

5. Homemade Cards

You can certainly go all out with these if you want and incorporate anything from hand stamping to glitter enhancement and bejeweling. However, if you're embarking on a holiday trip with the kids, maybe this printable card that your child can color in the car is a simpler bet.

6. Budget Bouquets

One of the easiest Easter crafts you can make is to choose affordable flowers to purchase in bulk and create your own striking bouquet. This piece on affordable flowers from Andrea Karim is a helpful place to start. Think narcissus blooms tied with a white ribbon, or a short glass spherical vase filled with spring-colored carnations.

7. Eggshell Candles

If you're looking to keep things eco and cut down on the plastic, then these eggshell candles from Paint Cut Paste are the perfect addition to your repertoire of Easter crafts. The dyed open shells look fantastic, and you could even display them in china egg holders when hosting a candlelight brunch after sunrise service.

8. Crafty Cakes

Who says Easter crafts can't be edible? I was excited to find this easy bunny cake that looks exactly the one my Mom and I used to make every year when I was little. You only need two round cakes to create the face, ears, and bowtie. The rest of the decorations can be handled with plain frosting, a bit of red dye, some coconut, and simple candies from your local grocery store.

What are some of your favorite Easter crafts to make at home? Do you prefer natural materials or traditional craft supplies?

I love dyeing Easter eggs. Usually, I pick up kits at the dollar store though I once used some natural materials. When my kids were small, I would boil a bunch of eggs (about 2 dozen), set up materials outside on a card table, and invite neighborhood kids to dye eggs. They always had a lot of fun.
