Are we over the deals at Overstock.com?
These days, most of us have heard of Overstock. What many haven’t heard is that, if they don’t have it one day, they might have it the next. That’s kindof the point of the whole “overstock” thing: what one of their suppliers might still hope to sell one day could be marked as “overstock” the next, so keep going back!
A caution, though: Overstock feels more and more like your average online store and less and less like people who are trying to help you get the biggest BANG! for your buck. A little price-comparison research is in order, especially on big-ticket items.
Believe it or not, Overstock has been no stranger to hot water. In 2010 it came to light that the company had allegedly been listing misleading pricing information on their webstore, a direct violation of California's false advertising laws. The company was imposed with a $6.8 million civil penalty as a result. And the California bar hasn't been the only one to slap the mega-retailer's wrists; Google also cracked the whip when it was discovered Overstock had been paying for links on .edu websites and falsely boosting their SEO ranking. Yikes!
