Editor's Note: Congratulations to Adeline, Susan, and Jay for winning this week's contest!

A spending freeze is a commitment to not spend money on anything that isn't necessary to your survival for a predetermined amount of time — usually a day, a week, or a month. Besides the obvious savings, a spending freeze can also help you rethink your spending habits and gain perspective on what you really need in your life.

Have a ever done a spending freeze? What prompted you to try a spending freeze? What was your experience like, and what did you learn from it?

Tell us if you've ever done a spending freeze and we'll enter you in a drawing to win a $20 Amazon Gift Card!
