Buying a home is a common goal for many people, and it can make a lot of sense  — you're not paying rent, the property will likely increase in value, and you can fix it up any way you want. However, homeownership isn't for everyone. The mortgage is a big commitment for most people, and it's harder to leave if you need to move for a job or it turns out you don't like the area. You're also solely responsible for maintenance and repairs.
