A special thanks to Tim Smith over at Smile-Therapy.Com for turning me on to this one. For a limited time, E.L.F. brand makeup has a coupon code that will let you get their normally one dollar products for half off. That’s right, half. Fifty cents a piece. Read on to get the full details.

To tell you the truth, the original price looks decent for me. And now that there’s an option to try it for even less . . . works for me! Here’s what you do:

· Go to EyesLipsFace.Com.

· Start shopping.

You’ll see right away that most items are marked with a price tag of one dollar. Extra savings bonus? Tim clued me in on the following coupon code: CAROLINA . Apparently, you can get up to an extra 50% off with this up to a certain amount. It was his understanding that this code only worked for up to the first fifteen dollars or so. After that, you’ll be paying the full one dollar per item again. I’ve got a call in to the company to verify that, but in the meantime, these savings were so awesome, I wanted you all to know about it ASAP.

Several of the Smile-Therapy subscribers have been using this tip with great success, so we both agreed this would be an excellent opportunity for Wise Bread readers as well. Thanks for giving us something to smile about, Tim!

I read an article about this on snopes.com and had to add my two-cents. elf products are actually ALWAYS a buck. This isn't a limited-time deal, they're not selling out to Nordstrom, nothing. You can just get good cosmetics all the time for $1. They do have other items that do cost more, but it's still all really good quality, low-priced items.

+1 on the they're always $1. I heard about them at least a year ago...
also +1 on never seeing it in a department store.

K Mart just this weekend. on an end cap :)

Guest's picture

I've shopped at E.L.F. before. Most things are always $1.

They're usually a dollar.

I've shopped on the site in the past. Most things have always been a dollar. Later they added in some things that cost more.

yeah E.L.F has been a buck for as long as I have known them.  They have brushes and stuff for a buck, too.

Yes, ELF products are always $1. But you also get what you pay for, cheap cosmetics. I don't like any of their products except for their false eyelashes and stuff like brushes, sponges, etc. Their makeup is cheap and very low quality, IMO.

Best tip I've seen for days on any blog! Thanks a bunch!

Their products are sold online and in some Target stores too. FYI: everything I've ordered has been made in China- if that's a concern for you.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that Elf makeup has always been a dollar. It isn't from Nordstrom's either. I have ordered from them before. Their makeup is extremly cheap and low quality feeling. There are a few good deals such as makeup brushes. But be careful when ordering. Some of the colors aren't true and the smell of some of the things is bad. I did like the eyeliner though.

Guest's picture

Bummer, wish I would have read the comments before purchasing. BUT the Coupon code DID work, so that made everything .50cent So well worth it still :) Hopefully the quality is ok..

I have elf concealer and have also used lip gloss. The concealer is good enough for me. And yep they're always $1 at places like kmart, etc.

The lip gloss was "ok." It definitely isn't one that would be good to use if you have chapped lips though--it doesn't really soften the lips or help with chapping at all.

I'll jump on the "always a dollar" bandwagon. I've ordered from there a handful of times. I hate the lip gloss, but like the eyeshadow. In general, I find most of the products aren't high quality. But if I'm looking to experiment with a new color - you can't beat the price. Also, they definitely are not sold at Nordstrom's. I've never noticed them at target, but I'll have to look next time I'm there.

Thanks for the coupon code.

I was excited to see this tip on Wise Bread, but the cosmetics themselves have garnered all kinds of negative attention from reviewers (good sampling here: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf11681198.tip.html). I wish this original post would've included some of the drawbacks before such a hearty recommendation; I imagine at least a handful of readers will go through with ordering before realizing the drawbacks (or maybe just realities) of the promotion.

Well bummer, guys. This was always something my friend's teen was always psyched about, and she is such a hip kid. You know, always in the know about the cool stuff . . .

We live so far away from anything like a Nordstrom's, and it isn't someplace I can afford to shop at on a regular basis anyway.

Based on these comments I'm reading, I think I smell a product review coming on. Thanks for tuning in and sharing the links everyone. And for those of you that have had good luck with the products, I'd love to hear from you too.

Xin Lu's picture

I think maybe the article should be edited to take off the Nordstrom's association since Nordstrom's officially denies that they are associated with ELF. The coupon code still works so that's cool. Maybe it should say 50 cent makeup at ELF with coupon or something.

Guest's picture

That's all? Well, bummer? This article is just posted SPAM. It's not true. Do your research.

If you'd like to know what other users think about these "high end" products, there are tons of reviews at Makeup Alley: http://www.makeupalley.com/product/searching.asp?CategoryID=0&brandname=...

Some things like eyelash curlers get rave reviews while others mascara don't do so hot. So it seems some things are a deal for $1 and others aren't.

You know, I've been sitting here thinking of how to proceed and was thinking I would wait until the morning, since I was on the road all day in a remote area (and therefore unreachable by the P.R. person).

I wanted to wait and see what they had to say, since Smile-Therapy had been having success. But with the Nordstrom's question . . . I think you're right. And I definitely want to pursue a product review, particularly since there are mixed reviews.

To a couple of the people who were little more upset - I have been trying to get back on to do the edit and we have been having some fairly significant back end problems with that, including even being able to post comments. (Although others seem to be having success.)

Regarding research, well, there were several phone calls back and forth with individuals I had worked with successfully in the past. Although it was a bit hectic this morning what with having working from the road for at least the next few months. (More on that in an upcoming flood evacuation article - my own personal DIY story.)

Rather than point fingers at anyone, I'm willing to chalk it up to a few good people getting their wires crossed. And yes, I could have waited for that additional return phone call. But with all of the other information  falling into place, and this morning's schedule being what it was, it seemed legitimate to post it as it was. I made a judgement call, and it bit me in the tush. I'll own it.

However, the makeup is still available at a great price. I have the edit ready for tonight (we are still working on the back end), and hopefully the comment will actually post this time. I will also give the company a follow up call in the morning and give them a chance to chime in.

Let me first apologize to Myscha for not giving her 100% accurate information. This is my mistake, not hers, period.
I have read enough of Myscha's work to know that she gives tremendous information and is a well researched journalist.

Second, I want to apologize to all the Wisebread readers for the inaccurate information on the ELF products. Normally, I research everything to the best of my ability to bring as accurate info to the readers as possible.I relied on a normally good source and Im sure they did the same.

In sheer excitement of getting a "good deal" to others, I goofed. My fault and again, I apologize.

Some mistakes will happen and although not good, we can learn something from them and improve our work/ ourselves in the future. Message learned today: If it sounds like an incredibly super duper deal, validate it.

I am in this with other ELF purchasers,as my wife took my news to the tune of a 3 digit order. Now the good news.......

Thanks to guest #20 for a great feedback post from Makeupalley.com.I wanted to find out if these products were as good as touted.

Bottom line : Will people RE ORDER the product? That, above all else tells us if the products are worth a lick.

My grading is very common sense and simplistic. Any product with a 70% or higher RE PURCHASE is a passing grade. I only took products with at least 5 reviews, for a fair sampling of the product.

48 out of 84 products( 57%) got a 70% or HIGHER "Would Buy Again" rating. And many of those products were up in the high 80-low 90% chance of REBUY.

That tells me that the ELF line has some pretty decent products.

Finally let us not forget that the products were still only $1(some cases 50 cents). So, for that price, still not a bad deal. As someone else commented, its not as exciting knowing that is wasnt from Nordstrom. Nontheless if people rebuy it, then it is a good deal.Lets hope overall, most get a decent deal for their buck.

Again my sincere apologies to Myscha and all Wisebread readers.

You know, I meant it when I said I see this whole thing in the light of " a few good people getting their wires crossed". We all just wanted everyone to get a good deal, and know about a tremendous money saving opportunity at a time when money is tight for all of us, particularly here in the States.

Thanks for chiming in, and for the additional information on the E.L.F. products.

Guest's picture

Hey, the coupon made it 50 cents a piece. Even if I don't like it, I will give it to my teen/tween daughters and they will love it.

Myscha Theriault's picture

Thanks for stopping by. Well, you've got a point there. Fifty cents is tough to beat. Especially for some of the tools / brushes, accessories and other cosmetics. I'm thinking this would be a great chance to stock up on stocking stuffers for the holidays?

Still waiting to hear back from the PR department on how long the coupon code lasts.

Guest's picture

If you have a KMart or Target, try buying E.L.F. products from there. E.L.F. has notoriously poor shipping practices (I've seen low reviews on many sites about their purchase policies).

I've used some of their stuff. Some of it's very, very good (eyelash curler, brushes, eyeshadow), but most of it is awful. Still, I wouldn't purchase from their online store--the company lies quite a bit about the transactions, not to mention these phony Nordstroms and Bloomingdale claims, plus I've even read a few beauty blogs where the blogger criticised the quality of the product, and the commenters raved about E.L.F. under different names, only to have the blogger discover that the comments were coming from the same people!

Again, if you don't mind a little risk, I'd rather have people buying from big box stores than ordering online.

Guest's picture

commenter #26 is right, shipping is SLOW. I placed an order on May 22, and it shipped on June 10th.
that's a bit too long of a delay, if you ask me. but 12 brushes for $12, then HALF off, was too good a deal to pass up!

Good to know. Thanks for stopping by, and joining the discussion.
