Dawn works great for getting rid of fleas! I've been using it for years (I had a cat that died from using the chemical flea products so people should be careful). You just need to be careful not to use too much of it as it will strip oils from the animal's coat. Instead, I put a few drops in a bowl of warm water, dip a flea/lice comb into the soapy water and comb through the fur. Dip the comb back into the soapy solution and watch the fleas die instanly. You could also bathe the animal in a weak solution of dawn and water although it might still strip the coat.
