Although Discover has fewer credit cards in its collection than other credit card issuers, its cards are often rated as some of the most popular cards available. Discover is well-known for its cash back credit cards that award as much as 5% cash back in rotating categories that change each quarter. This rate of cash back has been one of the most valuable rewards programs offered by any credit card.

Discover cards also include helpful card features such as Discover’s Freeze ItSM for easily and quickly freezing your account if you misplace your card, as well as free access to your FICO credit score. And, if you frequently travel abroad, Discover cards don't charge foreign transaction fees. If you’re looking for a credit card known for providing valuable rewards and card features, you should consider applying for one of Discover’s credit cards.

How to Find the Best Discover Credit Card Promotions

  1. Internet – Our Recommended Option. If you’re looking for the best and most up-to-date Discover credit card, we recommend checking out the options online first. This is not only one of the easiest and fastest ways to research each card, but it also allows you to get all the information you need and apply for the card of your choice without leaving your house. Further, the Discover credit card website will typically have the most current promotions that are being offered.
  2. Mail Offers. Many credit card issuers, including Discover, send promotional offers in the mail. Mail offers typically include the basic information for a particular card, based on your demographics and any preapproval offers. These offers also provide information for applying for the card through either a phone number or a website address with a preapproval application code for your offer. Mail offers are also usually up-to-date and, as a bonus, are exclusive to your basic information.
  3. TV. Discover’s television ads often focus on new features such as the recent commercials that demonstrate how Discover Freeze ItSM works to protect your account information instantly if you misplace your card. Other commercials cover Discover’s live customer service representatives, which are often ranked as the best in customer service. Television ads include current promotions for a particular credit card, with a phone number or website address for applying for the card.
  4. Magazines/Newspapers. You can still get Discover credit card promotions from magazines, newspapers, and other print periodicals. However, unless you are personally subscribed to these publications, there is a chance that an ad you come across can be outdated and not the most current or the best offer. Magazines and newspapers will lead you to a phone number or web page for applying, but won’t provide the information you need to compare cards or research the details.
  5. Bank Branches. There are limited Discover locations if you want to physically apply for a credit card, especially when compared to the number of bank branches available with other card issuers. You can apply in-person, and can even get information on current promotions. However, it isn’t nearly as fast and easy as searching the Internet for the best promotions from the comfort of your own home.

Credit Cards for People with Excellent to Good Credit

Most Discover credit cards require excellent to good credit ratings, which can be a problem if you have had credit problems in the past. If you don’t qualify for the Discover card of your choice, you should consider a secured card for rebuilding or building your credit, and if you are a college student, you might start with one of the student cards. If none of the Discover cards appeal to you, we recommend that you check out our lists of the best balance transfer, low-interest, travel rewards, and cash back credit cards.
