One of the newest cards to become part of the Barclays family is the recently released the JetBlue Card. While there are some similarities to the old JetBlue credit card, there are a couple features with the new version that JetBlue fans will appreciate. If you’re considering a credit card for easily earning miles that you can redeem for JetBlue award flights, you should consider this card.

Why We Like This Card

  • Bonus of 10,000 points
  • 50% savings on eligible inflight purchases

How This Card Works

This card awards through the TrueBlue program. You get 3x points for each dollar spent on JetBlue purchases, 2x points for each dollar at restaurants and grocery stores, and 1x point per dollar on all other purchases. There is no annual fee for this card.

Bonus. If you spend $1,000 with your card within the first 90 days, you get a bonus of 10,000 points. You also get a 0% introductory APR on balance transfers made within your first 45 days of opening the account, for the first 12 billing cycles. The APR for purchases and balance transfers after the intro period is 12.99%, 20.99%, or 25.99% variable.

You can redeem your points for any seat, at any time on JetBlue-operated flights. Points required for an Award Flight varies based on the published base fare when you book. The TrueBlue program also has a Family Pooling program of up to 2 adults and 5 children, which allows you and your family members to contribute and share points to the family account without any transfer fees. There are no limitations on the number of points you can earn, and points do not expire.

Other Benefits

50% savings on eligible inflight purchases. Cardholders get a 50% savings on inflight purchases such as beverages, meals, and JetBlue movies. The savings appearon your account as a statement credit.

    Pros

Bonus offer. The bonus of 10,000 points can be a valuable bonus, especially with a credit card that has no annual fee to consider.

Earn bonus points on restaurants and groceries. Most major airline credit cards only award bonus points for the purchases made with the airline. In fact the old JetBlue card only awarded JetBlue purchases and then all other purchases earned one point per dollar spent. This card awards triple points on JetBlue purchases and double points on purchases made at restaurants and grocery stores, allowing you to earn points faster on your day-to-day shopping. 50% savings inflight. If you use your card for inflight purchases, you can take advantage of a significant discount of 50%. Though this is a common perk that accompanies airline rewards credit cards, the discount is not usually more than 20-25%.

No foreign transaction fee. A major disadvantage of the previous JetBlue card was the foreign transaction fee. This fee is often as much as 3% with other rewards credit cards. If you frequently travel abroad, you won’t have to worry about paying an additional fee for foreign purchases. (See also: Best Credit Cards Without Foreign Transaction Fees)

    Cons

Limited flight benefits. Although the card offers significant savings on inflight purchases, it doesn’t include the benefits you’ll get with other airline rewards credit cards. Many travel rewards cards offer priority boarding, free checked bags, or discounted airport lounge access. If you prefer extra travel benefits when you fly, you may have to choose one of the airline rewards cards which also typically charge annual fees. Who This Card Is Best For

This card is best for those who frequently travel with JetBlue and prefer an airline rewards card with fewer fees even if it means fewer travel benefits. It is especially ideal if you travel outside of the U.S. or need to make a foreign purchase because there is no foreign transaction fee. Also, if you plan to use your card for grocery and restaurant purchases, you can earn enough points for award flights faster.
