Thanks for sharing this. But even harder than starting a new blog with a bang is starting a blog that lasts. So many bloggers start off too gung ho with lots of posts and then seem to burn out at or around the 6-month mark. I was just doing Carnival of Pecuniary Delights business, sending out the weekly instruction email to next week's host who applied to host 2 months ago only to find that he hasn't posted in over a month - and last month was his 6th month. And he's not the first.

So, it's important to learn to pace yourself, too.

The problem with the list is only one of them actually does anything to get traffic to your site, guest posting. You can have all the great content, prizes, incentives in the world but if no one knows you exist there is no traffic. This post would make a great follow-up post to something like "how to get traffic to your blog when starting up"

@weakonomist: The article also mentions Twitter, Social Media, and Ad Campaigns as tips -- all aimed at getting people to one's blog.

@hermione: interesting observation, it seems that the first few months are like a "weeding out" period, separating the serious bloggers from the casual ones.

Perhaps an additional tip would be to write (but not publish) posts regularly for a few months and then decide whether you really want to start a blog, at which point, you'd already have tons of content.

Great idea! I've hardly blogged at all for the last year because I've been busy with other stuff, it would have been good to have some backup posts.

Thanks for the link too - some interesting ways of getting traffic and a great blog in general. The design is awesome!
