Well, this is on the other end of the spectrum, but Dreamweaver seems to generate some pretty clean code. I have it installed and use it from time to time, but more often than not, I hand-code in Notepad++.

Dreamweaver is a very good program, but like you said, it's the other end of the spectrum. Not exactly an editor for strictly HTML, but ASP and stuff. Very good program, but a bit over my head.

On Mac, Textmate is the way to go.
On PC, NoteTab (Light)'s pretty okay. Notepad is a bit too... light and I feel like I should've outgrown it. Notepad's what I used to learn HTML back in 1997. Ah, those old framesets and black backgrounds *nostalgia*

I like Notetab (note that this is different than Windows Notepad).

When I don't feel like waiting for Dreamweaver to load up I use TextWrangler on the mac. For being free it does what I need.

I haven't used the WYSIWYG part of Dreamweaver for a while but I don't really like what it does to code if you do a lot of drag and drop design.

I've used FrontPage in the past and recently began to use Dreamweaver for web site editing. I recently purchased it from buytech.com. Here is a link to their product. http://www.buytech.com/p-351407-adob...e-product.aspx
Good Luck!
