Blogger Backlinks

I've been trying to get a grip on backlinks, but I really don't understand how they work.

Do Blogger Backlinks only work for blogs on Blogger? If I link to somebody in the text of my blog do I need to do anything else? Or will they automatically be notified of the link?

I have enabled the feature on my posts, but if the person I'm linking to doesn't have it enabled will they still receive notification? And how are the notifications received? By email? I'd also like to be able to tell if anyone is linking me.

Ok, sorry to overload you with all the questions, if you can answer any of them I'd appreciate the help. Thanks

You're using Blogger, right? So do I. At the end of each post, you'll see a link that says "Links To This Post". Click on that and you'll see if any other blogs link to that particular post.

You can also use technorati to see who is linking to you. Take a look at the right side bar at my unschooling blog and click on "Blogs That Link Here". It'll take you to my technorati page.

I used wordpress for a while but didn't like it.
