I've been writing a food blog for about 3 years now. In the beginning it was all about passion (yes, I love eating!). Now it's about passion and making money equally. My main source is google Adsense. But now I'm trying to explorer if there are more ways to make money by blogging. I read John Chow's blog. This guy makes over $20,000/month just by blogging. I'm trying to start a new blog just focusing on how to make money by blogging. Still in the learning process. Let's all hope we can be like John Chow one day!

Holy Moly Batman!

I'm starting a blog (first post goes up tomorrow ), but not to make money. Having said that it certainly would be nice if someday I am able to bring in a few bucks on the side!

I'm curious though, just how much money do people make blogging? It seems that although most people open up about their dirty little credit card debt secrets and much more on their PF blogs they never say what their blog-related income figure is.

I know that depends on a number of factors such as the amount you pay in expenses and the success of the blog, but I'd love to know some average numbers.

I definitely didn't start blogging for money. It was really just a fun thing to do and I am glad that I am generating a little bit of cash to cover the utility bills now. If it becomes a real job then it isn't fun anymore and you are just pressured to write. I also don't like pay per post because I don't want to review stuff I don't really like. Anyway, for the amount of time I put into blogging I am getting paid maybe 1/20th of minimum wage. So yeah, it's mostly for fun.

My blog is about kids and healthy eating, which I enjoy but began in order to drive traffic to my website where I will have an actual product to sell. Problem is my product doesn't get here from the overseas manufacturer for 60 days! So while I sit and wait for it, I"m trying to build traffic, so when it does arrive, I can do my own marketing. So far I think it's good. I average 50 views a day, but I"ve only been consistent with posts for a month. I'm hoping by the time I have my product here, I can get all those fifty people to check out my product.... Free advertising. Plus my sister has a blog about organizing. She sells some software for organizing and the blog was intended to get more search engine hits. Blogs are better at getting high on search engines. Well the local morning news program in Salt Lake City liked her ideas (they read blogs too) on organizing and has had her on twice to do a segment on organizing, thus driving traffic to her true product, the software. The day she was on the news she got 900 views to her blog, and she's fairly new too. That's our plan to sell a product, without forking out tons for advertising.

I currently only use adsense on my site, and I can't say that I really make any money from that. Ideally, I'd like to move my site to a domain and have it pay for itself, but beyond that, I'm not really looking to make money. I read a lot of PF blogs, and I decided keeping my own was a great way to share the information I had come across and also a good way to stay accountable for my own finances.

If I did make money off my site, I think it would be fun to use it for those financial endeavors that I'm always a little too financially conservative to try - more risky loans on Prosper, maybe some shares of stock, etc.

I'm not nessisarily in it for the money, but I would like to be able to afford the domain name and have some pay for the time spent typing. Though, I love what I write is #1.

I've had a blog for over five years but it's still hosted on Livejournal so I'm not making money from that. However, I do have an Adsense account for other websites that I've created.

Talking YES! I'm in blogging for money. Good thing I also love it!

I started blogging for the money, but I've always written. I came from working in the newspapers and a great (paying) online site called militarylifestyle.com. I started getting a craving to be my own editor so I don't have to answer to anyone but the reader. I'm not making much (I can almost afford to go to Starbuck's with what I've made, but I can't treat yet. sorry.) but I am absolutely loving having full creative power.

So yes, I'm in it for the money, but I also love it. I'm also starting a site for family, which of course will be all for love.

I love to write, and blogging is a natural fit for me. I'm not in it for the money, but I also don't want to be out of pocket either. For now I am using blogger to host my site, but eventually I would like to have my own .com URL hosted. I added Adsense and Pay per Play to my site to see if I could generate enough monthly revenue to accomplish this. If and when I ever start making enough I will migrate to my own .com address
