Domain name registrations

I direct-type any domain name I'm interested in into the address bar for this reason. I only type in a potential domain name into a registrar's web page after I'm sure I'm ready to buy it. If you are going to launch a new product (blog, website, etc.), announce a partnership, change your business name, or do just about anything else on the Internet, consider registering the relevant domain name and close variations of it before you do so. Domainers and registrars are very quick to snip up names that may be of (resale or link-revenue generating) value. After you go public with your new name, you may find that the domain name is already taken.

And this isn't new. Many registrars have been doing this for years. Just ask any porn webmaster.

Network Solutions is being sued for this very behavior. The litigant is seeking class action status, so if you have been burned by Network Solutions, Google for more information and see if you can help (especially if you have documentation).
