I switched to MediaTemple last year, and it was one of the best decisions I've made. Aside from virtually no downtime (except a few brief periods during schedule maintenance at around 3am), you can pick up the phone and call them 24 hours a day for support.

And the best part is that unlike most shared hosts that will just disable your account when traffic or resources spike due to a surge of visits from a social site or something, it can handle it, and if things get critical enough, your site temporarily and seamlessly gets assigned more resources to handle the spike.
