Question Hosting for Websites/Blogs?

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering what everyone uses for their blogs and hosting.

I'm planning to move my personal website (http://www.msu.edu/~schiffm3) to a new place where I can experiment more. My alma mater, Michigan State University currently provides my hosting but it doesn't support anything like wordpress or blogger.

Once I figure out who to purchase hosting from I am going to do a complete re-design and make it more "bloggy." I eventually want to build my own server, but that may not happen for a good while and I'm itching to redesign my site.

What blogging software, and/or hosting providers do you use, and how do you like them?

I use Hostnine.com and Namecheap.com hosting. I'd host your site for you for free if your interested you'd just have to buy your own domain. Let me know. I've got an unlimited plan with reseller options just so you know.

I like HostGator.com, Hostnine.com, and so far Namecheap.com for hosting.

Thanks for the info, and the offer. My boyfriend and I will probably be sharing hosting, and he needs a lot of space for video samples. I will probably also eventually host sites for some people I know.

Lot of host have it in there control panel a way to automatically install Wordpress. It's fairly easy anyways but it's a cinch with those host that just drop it right in there. Fantastico Deluxe is the name of it in the control panel. Love your photography on your page. Great looking image gallery script too...

Hey Amy, I just saw your MSU address and that you live in Lansing. I'm an MSU alum myself. Go state!

Personally, I use Hostgator for my main blog. They are very good.

I use Verve Hosting. They're among the cheap, but not the cheapest, but their customer service is absolutely amazing. You have a question about anything and they respond incredibly quickly. A few years back, I totally screwed up some of my scripting beyond belief, I e-mailed them asking if they could overwrite what I did with a backup, and instead, they just fixed my mistake, meaning that I didn't lose any of the other work I had done.

Great service. And they do have one click install of Wordpress. As soon as I decide I'm ready to pay for another domain name, I'm moving my finance blog over there as well.

I went with Dreamhost for my blog. I don't think they are cheap, but they are reliable. I've heard from other bloggers that they have been good to work with, so I'm giving them a try. Good luck

I just started using PolurNET. It has a decent number of features and is pretty cheap for someone just starting to play with putting up a new website.
