I think the easiest way to make money on your blog is by placing some Google Adsense ads. When people click on your ads, you get paid. I make about $2.00/day on my blog. It's not much, but still it's pretty rewarding for just writing about something you enjoy.

I've just signed up for amazon associates as well, that could be a good way of generating a small income.

Yes, Google adsense and Amazon affiliate both work great in my personal development blog. It's pretty much about what is your blog niche and how you monetize it, well.. it takes times and research.

Default Wordpress

What about when you're using a wordpress domain? Any recommended money-makers there?

Do you mean WordPress.com? (I'm talking about the place where you can have a blog with a ____.wordpress.com URL, not the platform you can use on your own domain.) If so, good luck trying to find an ad service or money-making opportunity that works. According to this, I believe Amazon Associates is acceptable.

Maybe the most popular article on the subject is Pavlina's How to Make Money From Your Blog.

To make real money from blogging, you'll more than likely have to stop using LiveJournal. Most people whp make "real" money from blogging (that is, more than a couple dollars) host their own blog. Some can use Wordpress.com (like Lorelle), but she makes money from selling her eBook, and from freelancing as she doesn't have any ads on her site (because it's on wordpress.com). Likewise, I don't think you can have ads on your LJ, except for the ads the LiveJournal itself puts on the sponsored accounts (and in that case, they make money, not you).
To make serious money, you'll have to have your own domain and hosting, in addition to good writing and a blog topic that people are interested in. ^_^ That way, you can control the type od ads (or other revenue sources) that you use.

Check out ProBlogger and Performancing for how-to professional blogging tips.

Good lucko

I should have checked it out but I've just realised that wordpress doesn't allow ads. I think I'll be changing to a hosted domain again as I think that's entirely unreasonable.
