Looks fine where you've got your ads. Now just spend time driving that traffic! Adsense is all about placement and search engine traffic. If you've got both nailed, you can see some decent money come down the pipe.

If you're up to the task sell ad space on your site directly. You contact the businesses and negotiate the rates yourself. And instead of doing things for a few cents a click and tracking everything, arrange a flat monthly fee based on your numbers monthly site visitors. Leave this as a contract to be renegotiated every 3-12 months.

Of course try to go with an advertiser that matches your blog topic somewhat.

I agree with what you're saying, cliffdodger. You can be proactive and get advertisers if you'll just get out there and contact people. If you've got a decent Alexa score and a Google PR, there will be interest.
