Default Monetize Your Website

If you are looking to make a little money from your blog or website, you should consider using affiliate marketing programs. If you use or have used Commission Junction, Flex Offers is very similar but appears to offer higher payouts. So far, I am pretty happy with them.

They are also running a promotion where you can earn a $200 bonus.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I find that I am liking FlexOffers alot better than Commission Junction.

I'm liking FlexOffer better than CJ, too. I like how the links are simple. <a...><img...></a> and that's it. No long chunk gibberish like CJ links have.

But I did notice one difference. I got approved by CafePress for both programs, but the commissions are higher from CJ - 15%, whereas it's only 12% at FO.

But the FO site is easier to use.

I just use adsense, since it seems to do a good job of advertising what I'm talking about. What did we ever do before Google?

You do need more ways to monetize your site than Google adsense because you shouldn't put all your eggs in one company. So I think getting started with affiliate programs is a good idea.

An affiliate program is basically a sales commission program on the web. Basically you put up a link to a certain product on your website and if someone buys it you get a cut from the company selling the product. A big one that you can easily join and start promoting right away is Amazon Associates at http://associates.amazon.com

That's true. You really want to diversify the way you make money. Plus, as Darren says over at http://www.problogger.com, Adsense tends to make your site look cheaper. That's kind of true.

As you grow and develop a strong readership, often you can sell advertising directly to companies for set monthly rates. That's how I make most of my money at this point, though I'm looking to diversify soon!

Good discussion... I steered away from adsense at first because of its cheaper look but since I've added it - in small measues and with customer formatting - it has generated a few dollars. I removed most of my affiliate links and moved up adsense on the page and my revs have improved.... we're only talking $6-7 bucks in the last month but more than the $0 I collected elsewhere.

And let me know what you think about my ad usage... subscribe to the feed to see my ads there too!
