Default Hey Guys

I'm a health educator turned stay at home mom. I found out it was a lot harder to provide my own kids healthy food than it was to tell other people at my job how to do it. So my blog is my new found resolve to practice what I used to preach and if my kids are receptive to the healthy food I'm giving them. Check it out at Kids & Healthy Food

I've been blogging for a few years, in different locations, but in November I started up a focused blog on food (esp. Maine food) called Blueberries and Lobster. My plan is to focus on local agriculture specifically.

I also just this week joined the writers' stable at Queercents. I have yet to actually post there, though.

I'm excited about everyone's blogs but am especially excited about this one. I have been trying to get my kids to eat healthy (fruit, limited salt, canola oil, crackers with no trans fat, fresh vegetables, etc.) but it almost seems that my attempts have backfired. My green beans, for example, are not nearly as good as the school cafeteria's. I look forward to learning some new tricks though I have developed a few of my own (zucchini bread and kale dip).

Thanks Julie. I'd love to try your Kale dip recipe. I'll definitely be following this forum. My second love is being frugal. I love all and any advice I can get.

It's easy: steam kale, then chop it finely (I use a food processor); mix with sour crean and dried vegetable soup mix. You can adjust the quantities but I use a bunch of kale (I think that is considered a real quantity), a carton of sour cream (16 oz), and a pack of soup mix. Serve with chips and/or veggies. You may have a better idea of what to add rather than store-bought dried soup mix.

Julie, I simply HAVE to ask: why are you avoiding trans fats, yet consuming canola oil (genetically modified rapeseed oil)?

I'm a high school student who enjoys making short videos for school projects and for fun. My friends and I post our projects on a blog that I started last summer. As we make more projects, the site gets updated. Please check out our videos. We've made a music video about the U.S. presidents in which my friend and I rap. The chorus is really catchy! You can also see my mad beatboxing skills in a video I made for a church youth group. You can even watch me perform an entire Monty Python sketch in Spanish!

These videos are sure to make you laugh. Check it out and leave some comments!
