Suggestions for More Traffic?

I started my blog last month, and soon have a new one income living book coming out...any ideas for the site-how to gain more tarffic? I already have a few small contests on it:

When Ramit published his book, he offered a lot of people free pdf previews of chapters in his book. People love free previews, especially if they are filled with great tips.

Getting traffic or visitors when just starting out is a challenge. Leave comments on other blogs that are thoughtful and topic related. Find a site/blog that YOU like and ask for a link exchange. Use twitter and try twitterfeed.com to automatically have your blog posts sent to your twitter site. Submit to search engines.

By commenting on blogs of similar interest of yours (and like the above poster said thoughtful posts), you may be able to bring in more traffic.

Submitting a site map and using Search engines is another very good way to bring in people, but all these things take time. Having some well written content is also another way to bring people in.

There is nothing you can do to really get around the effect time and content does to bring people to your site.

You can give it some umph by using blogs and directories to bring people in, but time is your best friend in this matter.

I see where you're coming from. (We read each other's blogs, so that's a start!). I know you already know to post comments on other blogs. And I know how frustrating it is seeing the daily traffic go up and down and (in my case) topping off under 100 visitors a day. I think you're book with boost your traffic. I also think that if you have time to guest post on other people's high traffic sites,that might help. So far my busiest days were when I either sponsored a guest post or I wrote one here on Wisebread.

Keep your outlook positive, eventually I think the traffic will increase-

Just to add to the social bookmarking tip, why not join a few webmaster forums? You tend to get a fair few referrals from these sites, esp noting Digital Point.

On blogger you are going to be limited to what you can do to help get traffic. On a normal wordpress blog you could add social media buttons to easily allow people to broadcast your posts for you.

Guest posting is a good way to get targeted traffic. Make sure you guest post some really good stuff. The best stuff you write. You always want to put your best foot forward to get people in the door.

SEO - Search engine traffic takes time. You have to get indexed and have targeted keywords in your titles. Social book marking your posts will help get them indexed.

Posting of forums, other blogs are good ways to get traffic and to get backlinks which helps your SEO.

Utilize your current networks on Twitter, Facebook, etc to bring traffic.

Look for a Tell a friend script that will work with blogger. Then the readers can send it to a friend through email.

Article marketing - Submit articles to ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, etc.

Offer a free copy of your book for ezine newsletter writers to review.

Good luck and be consistent. It will come.

Absolutely agree with TheWealthSquad.

I think guest posting is the absolute best way to get traffic to a new blog. The idea is to get yourself in front of an audience that you know will appreciate your own blog. (Commenting on other blogs in your niche is in second place for the same reasons.)

A secondary benefit of guest posting is SEO since you'll get a link or two back to your blog.

On way to add more traffic is too use goggle analytics to track where your traffic is coming from in the first place. Once you find where the most potent traffic is arriving from, you can then capitalize on this advantage.
