Hey amandajane, can you take a look at my site on Opera? I've checked it on IE 7.0, Firefox, and Safari. It's wonky on IE 6.0, but I don't know anyone with Opera. Google Analytics tells me not many people view my site on Opera, but some do - so it'd be nice to know if the site is also wonky on Opera.

Your two minutes would be greatly appreciated!

Hey yeah it looks the same. The only difference I can see is that is shows 1018.663 in the title bar before your page title I've no idea why.

Good on you for getting past the worry of the IE issue. If more people did this the better it would be. Designers can pander to IE because they feel they have no choice but in the long term it will never change if that attitude carries on. But then I'm not into world domination, even google worries me, lol

You could download Opera, it's not very big. I have IE, Opera, Firefox and Netscape for comparing sites. I also check Safari when I'm at Uni.

I sounded a bit conceited in my last post, sorry if I came across that way, it's one of my favorite annoyances, lol.

Gootsy -- I'm absolutely with you on this one. I think it's better to not say anything than to remind me (the reader) how long it's been.

Hmm, I can live with "1018.663" ... if I tried to fix it I'd probably break something else. Thanks for checking!

I actually don't mind the first person. Or the monetization, unless it has just absolutely gone overboard. If I find a site I like, I will actually check out the various ads and click one if it interests me.

Bloggers who sound like know-it-alls who are clearly giving bad advice drive me nuts. I've also discovered a trend where blogs are made up of entries that are links and reviews of other bloggers' posts. Link to something that interests you and you want to point out, but have some original content!

One thing that turns me off blogs (in addition to boring content and the "tell me something I didn't already know" factor) is when the message is clearly written by/addressed to college kids/early 20-somethings. Not so much a problem with techie blogs, but personal finance and productivity is just not the same when your 19 and single than when you're 39 and married and the light at the end of the tunnel that appeared to be fast approaching has turned into train called "6-figure bill to send two kids to college".

I agree with the comments about rehashing the same topics but in slightly different ways (though I enjoy a creative post as much as anyone) and offering valuable, well-researched posts on topics other than "spend less than you make" (such as tax saving methods, college savings, investment strategies, etc) but (long pause) the rehashes seem to be the most popular. Does anyone have insight into that?

Just my two cents here...

Keep in mind the vast majority of people reading PF blogs are new to this game that we seem to have already played. Most of us have READ about how to budget, save money, grocery shopping strategies and the like, but how many of us actually implement these strategies in our daily lives? I think what some of the rehashings have to offer is that bloggers unique take and perspective on the topic being discussed. It may help someone take the first step in implementing some of these strategies depending on the message delivery. Also keep in mind that there are different writing styles that work for some and will not work for all. So, while I may read the same topic on Get Rich Slowly, MyMoneyblog and Consumerism Commentary, I may actually choose to read and keep up with the version at say Millionaire Mommy Next Door because I feel that much of what she writes resonates with me.

So different strokes, different folks. Again, my cents here

I think there will always be an audience for "getting started" articles. (If that's what you mean by "rehashes".) I may have read all the basic PF info out there, but a reminder every once in a while is useful. For example, I might run across a Investing 101 article and realize I've totally forgotten about tip #4. It'll be a nudge to go check up on my portfolio.

Maybe rehashed content is more popular because it affects more people. Everyone needs the basics, but not everyone is ready for the unique, hardcore stuff.
