Default Are you happy with the speed your blog is growing at?

I started my blog, Master Your Card, almost exactly 6 months ago. This month it looks like I'll have about 12,000 unique visits, which I can't say I'm too unhappy with, but I can't help but feel I could be growing things a little faster.

Anyone else in the same boat as I am?

lol, you'd die if you saw how stagnant mine is

If you know you are doing everything you can you just need to wait or find new ways to do the same things.

I started my blog in February too and have had 25,476 unique visitors. While that's not too bad, I could do better with subscriber numbers (currently around 120), because I have a hard time publishing frequently. I try to post once every other day, but often end up posting once every 3 days. I notice that my subscriber numbers increase in leaps when I post on successive days, but it's just so hard!

Though, while I don't post very frequently, I do spend a lot of time on posts that I write - I'd say an average of 2-3 hours per post (depending on the article length, of course). My posts are all quite long with the shorter ones around 600-700 words and longer posts between 1,100-1,700 words. (Not counting our new free printable template series, which are low on words but my sister spends many hours designing them on Photoshop.)

It's a difficult balance to maintain. Some people say short posts are better, but I'm the kind of person who feels that if you're going to do something, you might as well do it all the way. So, I sometimes think I spend too much time working on one post - writing, proofreading, polishing, getting the images just right (I'm a dreadful perfectionist). I sometimes spend upwards of 4-6 hours on my long posts, which I question if is a waste of [sleeping ] time. So that's something I really need to work on.

My guess is that while long posts and less frequent posting result in fewer subscriber numbers, I think they are good for search engine traffic because they're keyword-rich. Just my guess.

So far, I love blogging. This was/is my first blog. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just wasting my time, but it all feels worth it when we get positive feedback from our readers. So, I'm pretty happy with the traffic and reception we've had, but would really like to see my subscriber count increase (and more Adsense revenue wouldn't be too objectionable either ).

I think it's all about perspective. I've had my blog since the beginning of 2008 and I've only started to see more action. I think it's because I've been building my network, nd writing better posts.

I'm not sure if posting more often really helps, if you feel like you might burn out. I also write one long post per week. I sometimes wonder if that's causing me to lose potential viewers, but I think quality wins in this case.

I've had my blog since the end of 2007/ beginning of 2008 and it's only been in the last two months that it's really taken off. On the other hand, I tend to date it from only two months ago, because it was then that I changed names, blogging platforms and hosts. It was almost like having a new blog and my subscriber and reader numbers have reflected that.

I think that the number of visitors you have is great for such a new blog. I am in the same boat as Almost Frugal. I had been using Wordpress.com for 3 months and just switched to a self-hosted blog. I definitely saw a decrease in subscribers and visitors over the past month. Hopefully as my domain becomes more established, I'll regain what I lost in the move

Manlovetea I am in the same boat as you! I just started out my first blog using wordpress and have found that it is very difficult to get any traffic from search engines or referrals. Any recommendations? I am very new to the blogging world so I am still learning how to modify templates and add extra features. Really my main concern at the moment has been my content.

We've all been in the same boat at one point or another. It wasn't until 8 months in that my blog really took off. I had less than 6,000 unique visitors during the 6th month of my blog. Just keep up the hard work and continue creating great content, and people will start noticing.

was there something in particular that changed at your site? something different do you think, that prompted that increase in visitors?
