Reputation: | Where are you looking to be as well? Want to be in DC proper, or willing to stay in MD or VA (still metro accessible)?

Reputation: | My son and I will be there in July. We'd like to see the usual touristy stuff plus whatever else seems like fun. My first choice is DC proper but I'm open. With the election this year, it seems like a good time to go. Are there any special events during July? Demonstrations? Protests? As long as we're there, we'd like to get in on the excitement!! |

Reputation: | I did some quick checking of the hotels that I know anything about around here, and they're all pretty pricey. I did a quick search on Travelocity though, and you might be able to find something there. I think staying outside of the district will probably be cheaper, if you want metro access. I live outside of the district (by about two blocks), and I promise, commuting in isn't a big deal at all. There are always things going on in DC. Not sure of any scheduled demonstrations or protests. There will likely be some going on. There's always something! The Supreme Court will be out though, and that seems to be where there are a lot of protests. Capital Fringe goes on in July.

Don't forget that it will be quite hot and muggy in July. (I'm not trying to be negative, but I've lived here for 30 some years and I'm still amazed Here's the metro map. You could easily spend an entire trip in the Smithsonian museums alone. You will definitely find plenty to see. You might want to consider contacting your local Senator or Congressman's office to see about getting a tour of the Capitol. Also, individual politicians often do weekly coffees with constituents or other unique things. |

Reputation: | Use this link to find bidding strategies for cheap hotel rooms on Priceline. http://biddingfortravel.yuku.com/forums/9/t/Hotels.html I used this bidding method with PL to get a room in Atlanta that was going for $379 on all of the other sites for $110 per night. |

Reputation: | I was swimming all sorts of travel sites and reviews for weeks relating to our upcoming DC trip. I used this link to a forum dedicated to US travel experiences. They informed me of areas to avoid and which were safe: http://www.city-data.com/forum/washi...acation-d.html I kept going back and forth with hotwire because you don't really know what you're going to get until after you reserve what it is they're offering. I've had people swear by it. Initially, I was looking at Dupont Circle but for $159 a day. I found a $107 four star hotel in the Foggy Bottom/George Washington University area close to Metro. I was skeptical of what their idea was of "four start". After booking I went directly to the website of the hotel put in desired check-in and check-out under resvervations, $309 a night. So, around $500 for 5 days. Let you know the results in a couple of weeks. |
