Wow... that's dedication! On the other hand, I end up waiting in line that long around here due to sheer cashier incompetence... it's enough to make you want to scream. I also tend to use the self-check lanes where available.

Has anyone had success with self-check and lots of coupons, or is that a no-no (like express lanes)?

It's no worse than having to wait while the cashier runs to the locked up cigarette stash to haul out a carton or two for some puffer. Coupons, I'm convinced, are like money if you would buy the product anyway. Most coupons these days are scan-able, presumably fast entry.

It depends on the store, at least near me.
At the Kroger near me, you have to hand your coupons to the cashier running the self-checkout lanes and he/she has to scan them for you. This is probably the easiest for me to deal with, as at least I know it's coming and the cashiers know what to do.

At Albertsons, I think there's a limit to the number of coupons or amount of coupon savings before you have to get cashier approval...usually at the end of the order.

At Walmart, I've heard stories that over five coupons or over $5 in coupon savings and the coupons will have to start beeping.

I don't know of any self-checkout lanes that are really great to use with lots of coupons, at least not near where I live.

Thats funny! I bet the guy really thought you were only saving a couple of bucks!!

I always let people go ahead of me for the most part. I know it takes time. Expecially when i goto CVS and sometimes have 3 seperate purchases.

I've lucked up so far. No crazy stories for me. I have met other couponers though standing in line. I've also shared my secrets with people.

ETA: I have had a few problems with cashiers though. Sometimes they act like i'm trying to steal something, expecially when i have a bunch of "freeibes". Thats why i try to go to the same cashier everytime i goto a store. So i dont have to deal with those looks

It's an issue of money. Not necessarily the money that you're saving with the coupons, but the fact that they don't have enough money to pay someone to shop for them.

High bid wins, or stand in line.
