Reputation: | I searched the threads and didn't find a topic on this. As I was surfing today I came across this site: The Freecycle Network After you search to see if there is a group in your area, you will need to sign up (follow the links) in a Yahoo Group. I'm still waiting for approval since I just signed up a couple of minutes ago but I can't hardly wait to see what folks have to offer! I already have a couple of things in mind. I guess its true, one persons trash is a another persons treasure! |

Reputation: | They do come by and get your stuff so you can avoid the landfill -- some receivers are overly aggressive about being the one to get your stuff; some givers seem very concerned about finding the right home for, say, their used magazines. |

I personally got tired of posting and reposting items because people flaked out and didn't show up. | |

Reputation: | I gave away one large item and the guy was very nice, came when he said he would, etc. I made sure he had a truck and had it outside for him. I got a few pushy emails after I promised the item and posted that it was claimed, which I found annoying. For awhile I kept getting the posts and it did seem that some people would claim items and then not show up, which may be why people became particular about the recipient. Still, I never asked or received anything b/c I didn't feel worthy based on the descriptions of the type of person who should receive the items...so finally opted out of the service. |

Reputation: | It sounds like people like the idea of the service, but are leaving because there isn't a way to rate other people (or is there?). Maybe they need an ebay style rating system, so we'll know if the other person is reliable. Call it "karma" points or something. |

Reputation: | I prefer the free section on Craigslist. You don't have to sign up for anything. Plus everytime I've tried to contact someone on the local Freecycle group to pick up their offer they never respond. |

Reputation: | I used Freecycle when I lived in a large enough area that it was easy to get pickups. In the area I'm in now, I don't get responses when I offer things. I might try Craig's List, but I wonder if my rural location will have the same effect? |

Reputation: | I've been freecycling for about 6 months or so now. I've had no trouble with people picking items up when arranged. It is a first come first served group, you have to get in there really quick or you don't stand a chance. I've applied for a few things and not heard back from people but I would assume that that's because it's impractical to answer every email enquiry you receive when it's such a busy group. It's a great idea I think :0) |
