Reputation: | I am looking for a quality elliptical and wonder how you find the best deals on these? They are very popular right now so I don't know if it would benefit me to wait until after January. What do you think? |

Reputation: | If you can wait a bit longer, you might consider that Santa may have given a few in your area to the New Year Resolutioners. New Years' resolutions typically last about 4-6 weeks before the dust collectors start hitting the after-market. So, I'd suggest taking a look through CraigsList and eBay in about 2 weeks!

When shopping for exercise equipment, don't buy low-end stuff. Ergonomics suck, and you won't be happy to use it. Before long, you end up buying the mid-level or better product. For used, yeah, you'll be sure to find something on CL or ebay. |

Excellent advice! And I'm sorry I forgot to include that. Especially because I purchased a treadmill from CostCo a few years ago and it still works great!

Reputation: | I second the vote for Craigslist. You just have to pick out a specific subset of machines and have a good idea of what you want ahead of time. Then, be patient until something that fits what you want *precisely* shows up. It can be easy to get impatient, but the wait pays off. I had to wait four weeks, but ended up getting the perfect home gym for the small spare room in my apartment. |

I'll second the suggestions of Craiglist, yard sales, etc. and not going too cheap. I've used the economy ellipticals before (in an apartment complex gym), and they really stank. While you're waiting to find the right machine, you could get a jump rope (usually less than $10). I find that's cheap way of getting a really good cardio workout. |
