Default What Makes Deals Most Attractive to You?

Is it "buy one, get one free", coupons for cents or dollars off an item purchased? Or are you swayed by percentages--75% off? When is a deal really a deal? I like "buy one, get one free" or 50+ percent off an item but I hate "buy one, get second at half price". Even someone as poor at math as I am can figure out that is around a 25% discount which in the world of discounts is barely worth a glance.

I generally don't like deals that encourage me to buy more than I need, so "buy one and get the second one at half price" isn't very attractive to me (unless it is for something I'll definitely use like soap).

I also like deals that are easy to cash out. If I have to jump through a lot of hoops with rebates, coupon codes, and affiliate links, I will probably just not buy the item. That's one of the rare occasions where laziness saves me money.

I like Kroger's "10 for $10" sales. It always catches my eye and gets me to buy.

I'm a fan of the percentage off deals. Especially 60+.

Though I get more excited when I see those 'spend 50 bucks, and get 10 dollars off your next purchase.' type deals for some reason. I guess it's because I think I'll be able to go to the store, get great deals, and be rewarded with another deal for spending a certain amount.

I am almost always disapointed with the 'spend 50 get 10' deal, since rarely find enough stuff at the store to push me over 50,, so i end up not getting anything .

"Buy one get one free" always catches my eye. "Outlet" also makes my heart paliptate (ha) but I've noticed with clothing stores, many times the "up to 70% off" means that only one, ugly, dirty item is marked 70% off, the rest are just 10-20%.

I prefer deals that are either high percentage off (50 or more on most things) or something that just outright gives me the price. I'm pretty good at mental math, but I always feel like the store is trying to trick me into something when they do the 10 for $10 or Buy-two-get-one-free (33% off, essentially). Which, in a way, the stores are. Not that it's deceptive, really. They're just taking into account the way most people deal with prices and respond to sales.

For shopping on-line, I love free shipping offers. I hate to find something for a reasonably good price only to find that it will cost half as much (or twice as much) to ship it to me.

I like deals that are bargains in the absolute sense. (that is, rather than relative to regular prices) In other words, after figuring in coupons, discounts, buy-one-get-one and so on, is the price of the item lower than what I would gladly pay to get it? That is actually the toughest way to shop because I have to weigh each purchase against an estimate of what I think it is worth. I also tend not to buy much (or even anything at all sometimes) when I go to a mall because regular prices tend to all be higher than my "gladly pay for it" prices.

Last week, I scored a $6 pair of pants because of Target's 75%-off clearance sale. I'd have paid $15 for that so when I saw it, I sprang for it. Too bad that was the only one they had in my size.
