Reputation: | Two things come to my mind, both from garage sales. First was when I was in high school, probably 10th grade. My chemistry teacher had raved about his CRC Chemical Handbook, basically telling us that it was the next best thing to the Bible. At a garage sale, I found a CRC Mathematical Handbook. I didn't really know what it was, but remembered what my chemistry teacher had said and I knew I was going to be studying more math as I continued in high school and college (engineering major). I didn't recognize half the symbols in the book, but I figured it might come in useful. Apparently the seller didn't really know what it was either, since she charged me $0.25 for it. The book became known as "The Magic Green Book" when I was in college, proving to be an almost invaluable resource for me and many of the guys I studied with. I still use it fairly regularly today. My second great deal was also a garage sale find. A couple of weeks before I went to college (fall of 1993), on a cold and rainy weekend, I was garage saling with my mom and sister. We came across a family that was selling a couch and loveseat set. They weren't pretty, but they were in good shape and comfy. I don't remember what they were marked, but my sister and I split the set she took the couch and I took the loveseat. My share of the cost was $12.50. The loveseat went with me to college and was used for the five years I was at school. I didn't have room to take it with me when I moved out, so I left it at the Christian fellowship building where I had lived and regularly hung out. Last time I was back there (a little over a year ago), the love seat was still there, in a back corner of a study room, still regularly used by students. |

| Senior Member | $100 for our puppy. That included his shipping from Mississippi to NH, neutering and his puppy vet checkup (we got him through a vet college outreach). And we got a ten week old puppy. |

Reputation: | I got a $360 silk jacket for $10. Or maybe the 4 star hotel we stayed in when we went to Chicago for $120 a night (Usually $400). Or the free waterbed we got off of Freecycle, it was one of the really nice ones. |

Reputation: | I was staying in a hotel the night before I took a big test as part of a fellowship application process. I was super nervous, and was looking forward to a relaxing night. The hotel was very fancy and not inexpensive, but it was walking distance to the testing location, and that meant one less thing to worry about the morning of the test. I was bumped up to the concierge level, and it was probably the fanciest hotel room I have ever stayed in. It was beautiful and had a spa tub with a small television in the bathroom and complimentary bath salts so I could have a nice relaxing evening before I could take the test. There was also a complimentary bar on the floor, as well as breakfast and snacks all day. While it wasn't free (which would have made it an INCREDIBLE deal), it felt like such a great deal and made for a perfect night before my test.

Reputation: | Not sure if this counts, since I haven't actually taken them up on it, but... The local KIA dealership periodically offers a buy 1, get 1 free sale. I looked into it, and it's really true. Buy a minivan at regular price, get a 4-door sedan absolutely free. |
