Wow. Great timing.

Many people would be cooking a lot nowadays because it's getting close to Christmas and these help solve some problems they will face.

I've been known to wear swimming goggles when cutting large quantities of onions. I look silly, but no tears. For smaller quantities, I put the onions in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes prior to cutting. That works great too.

The candle idea does have some merit. If the sulfur compounds are combustible, any that get hot enough should burn out of the air (ever seen someone use a lighter, aerosol spray can of something and create a mini-blow torch/flame thrower? Same idea.). However, I would think that you would need to be working fairly close to the candle to make this work.

Has anyone ever had success with this method? I may have to give it a try some time. If I do, I will report back.

I've never cut onions before. Are the tears really that big of a deal? I can't imagine it would be a problem.

I dont know where I picked this one up but wear swim gogles while cutting onions. Nothing can get in there. I have been doing this for years, even at a restaurant I worked at. Any willl do, but I bought a fancier pair and keep them in my accesories drawer in the kitchen.Totally works.

What a great tip! I may have to include that one in my next tips list--

I watch a lot of food network and they all say not to refrigerate your tomatoes... but realistically they just don't last as long if you leave them sitting out.

A tip not on the list is to use hairspray (not aerosol... the liquidy spritz kind) to remove pen markings from clothes. You spray it on, let it sit for a while, try to work the stain out, and then wash the item. I think it has to do with the alcohol content in the spray.
I didn't know about the hairspray thanks for the spillover knowledge
