Red face 27 Ways to Get Fit for FREE

I hope you don't mind me posting my own blog post here (if it's not allowed I am sorry and please delete the post) but there are a lot of ideas here that would help those who want to get fit but can't afford an extortionate gym membership.

27 Ways to Get Fit for FREE

Also if anyone has any more ideas then it would be great to have some new ones.

Jan

Nice blog and good post. I'm a certified fitness instructor and used to own my own exercise and dance studio in New York City. The best free exercise I do is walking with my daughters in the morning. We've been doing it for a while now...sometimes they walk or they ride their bike. We recently joined a gym through a special they were having for $99 for the whole year. They have ton of machines, classes and a pool.

What a great blog! and so appropriate for me. I'm trying to get motivated to exercise. I'm more than a little overweight unfortunately.

It occurs to me that it's because of the way I was programmed. My family aren't into sports, my Mum never exercised and I was a chubby kid at school and always embarrassed in gym class. I need to break that programming. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Actually there's a few things I'd like to ask you. Like the best exercise for those with a lower back problem too.

Also how medication can affect weight gain. I started a new one a few years ago and have steadily gained weight since. I need all the help I can get, lol.

These are good suggestions. Nice blog post! There's no way I would pay for a gym membership. Fortunately, I can just use the weight room and cardio room at my high school. Sometimes I see parents go there, too. So this is a good [free] option for those who are either a student or a parent of a student.

wow, thanks for the yoga video link!
Although I attend to classes every monday, our teacher will be out for the next 2 months so I guess I will need some guide.

And regarding exercise, lots of good tips there, thanks. Anyway I can afford a gym, and should run a bit more, which is from my point of view one of the best single things you can do.

@all - thanks for your kind words about my blog. It is quite new and I am trying to make it a great resource for everyone.

@amandajane - if you have medical problems such as lower back pain then its better NOT to try and take instruction from a book or DVD but to pay for a session with an expert (even if it's only a single session). The important thing is to use good form in whatever exercise you choose so that you don't hurt your back further and that can be best demonstrated in person. Yoga and Pilates are good for strengthening your back provided you do them correctly.

As for the medication it CAN cause weight gain but you would be best to ask your doctor about that.

Thanks Jan, I'll be talking to my GP about it on our next appointment. I really do need to get moving, but safely.
