Default The $300 garbage can - worth it?

I saw these garbage cans on one of those home improvement TV shows. They caught my eye because they looked durable. We have gone through numerous plastic and also metal garbage cans as they get dented, cracked or beyond cleanable.

I looked up the Vipp garbage cans online and about fell over, $300 for a garbage can? They are touted as being "designer", sorry but I don't pay a premium for something mass produced because someone slapped the word designer on it. But these cans do have a lifetime warranty and you can buy replacement parts for them. The company has been around since the 30's. What I can't tell is if the finish is baked on like a stove finish or just paint? Is the body of the can solid where it would not dent? Something about buying the last garbage can I will potentially ever need is appealing. I am trying to buy more things that are durable and classic in the hopes they I never have to buy them again. But $300? For a garbage can? This just seems insane.

Would you do it? Is this just overpriced "luxury" items?

I might think about it if it was bigger, but it looks kind of tiny. Nah, I lied. I wouldn't even if it was bigger. Maybe if it layed golden eggs

@ Kav- what an awesome image!
I used to work in a fancy home and kitchen store and we sold this garbage can
http://www.amazon.com/Brabantia-Sens...9126180&sr=1-1
Only they were closer to $450 (Canada!) I could never get over how many people thought that they were worth it. (They have specific liner bags that are almost $10 for 20)
We sold $70 toilet brushes from the same company- I would laugh when customers would ask if I had one since it was pretty much a days pay.
I think it's definitely worth investing in quality and durability for some products but I've never found any issues with regular rubbermaid style garbage cans.

I can't even conceive of paying $300 for a container to throw trash away in. Please, please, anyone who's ever bought one, contact me as I have a number of other designer products you just can't live without!

$300 for an inside trashcan? Maybe if it were a lifetime warranty outside trashcan but no way would I spend a whole paycheck on something that looks like an enameled fire hydrant with a flip top. Some people with money just like to buy into the idea of luxury and this seems to fit the bill.

I do want to add that I totally see the value in something that is well designed, going to last forever and is asthetically pleasing to you. I wouldn't shrug this off as "crazy" if you REALLY love it. I totally get that you want to buy something that will never go out of style, always work and always look good. I would say: "if you really want it, then save your change or whatever and put it in a jar. Once you have $300 in change, decide if you still want it." I do that sometimes and if I still want it a couple of months later when I know I have that "extra money" to pay for it, then I will get whatever I was thinking about. If not, then you have $300 extra dollars. Just the time to think it over is sometimes enough to make a decision one way or another.
