Default 7 Ways to Squash Identity Theft

Just this morning I learned that yesterday, 2 of my business partners had their laptop, 1 purse and briefcases stolen from the car they were in while at a dinner last night.

I knew this as I heard one of my partners doing the obligatory credit card cancellation/reorder routine. UGH! It can happen to anyone. As someone who has experienced having his wallet stolen, I decided to post the following:

7 Ways to Squash Identity Theft
http://thewisebuck.com/2009/09/23/7-...dentity-theft/

These 7 steps are simple and effective and can be taken today. Don't wait till the same happens to you. I think you will find these useful and effective.

Please feel free to add any steps you believe may be helpful.

Mike

Never...
-Call "800" numbers. They automatically identify the caller.
-Include any personal references in e-mail. (names, address).
-fill out "product registration" cards.
-put your name in a return address label.
-send any personal info in a text message.
-give any personal information to a door-door person.
-give any personal info to a service repairman.
-speak your telephone number "out-loud".
-same with any account number!
-link your phone number to your address.
-"verify" anything with your Soc Security Number.
-register for drawings, rebates, discount cards, coupons.
-reveal your name on any personal items (luggage, purse).
-leave any personally identifiable material in view in your car.
-have your license viewable when you open your wallet.
-mail anything from your mailbox.
-tell anyone calling what your name is.
-have a telephone number on any check.
-attach your home number to a "grocery card".
-give any company electronic withdrawal authorization.
-throw anything in your trash with your name on it.
-throw any membership application in your trash.
-allow a waiter, etc to "rerun" your card after an "error".
-post any stickers or "vanity plate" on your vehicle.
-give out any check without writing "photo ID required" on it.
-keep any account numbers in your wallet

Ok, that's enough for today. lol
