Reputation: | An Aldi grocery store has just opened up in my town, and I'm curious about them. I have heard people rave about their prices and products. However, I didn't recognize a single brand in the store, and while I'm not completely brand conscious, I would like to hear from people who have shopped there before. Thanks for your input! |

Reputation: | I don't mind off brands at all, so I don't know if there is a "taste" difference that I am not noticing, but AT LEAST get your fruits and veggies there! Our Aldi doesn't have every fruit/veggie (I think they rotate or something) but just comparing prices on say, a head of lettuce there, versus a head of lettuce somewhere else, you will see what a huge difference there is. I buy everything that I need there, then stop by the regular grocery store for the couple of things that I can't get at Aldi. Don't forget a quarter for the cart, and some bags and you will be good. Oh yeah, and their frozen section is GREAT. Great frozen chicken breasts, my husband likes the fish, even the sausage links and things like that are good. I like everything there, though, milk, yogurt, pecans, other stuff for baking, bread, aluminum foil, etc, etc. Have fun! |

Reputation: | We do about 75% of our shopping at Aldi, and have never had a problem with quality. Their staple stock is all Aldi house brand. Different lines will have different "brand names" (off the top of my head: La Mas Rica is their house label for Latino products, L'Oven Fresh for baked goods). A lesser known secret about the grocery business is that a lot of product lines will be produced by a single factory (tomato sauce, for example), and different house labels will be slapped on identical products. Personally, I love the fact that there is only one brand/one size of common grocery staples. It's a very quick and predictable shopping experience--no need to compare prices, convert prices between larger and smaller units, etc. I can do a weekly grocery run for a family of 4 spending only 30 minutes in the store, INCLUDING time in the checkout line! I know what they have, and where it's at, so it's just bam bam bam, through the line and out the door. To top it all off, the checkers are amazingly fast--don't have to mess around with bagging, and all the Aldi products have bar codes on every conceivable surface so the checker doesn't have to look for it or worry about orientation. The main downside is there are certain specialty products they don't have regularly, or at all. |

Reputation: | Aldi brands are pretty good, I haven't had a bad one yet! You must know, though, that you can only use debit cards or cash (I think?) and that you have to use a quarter deposit to get a shopping cart out (you get the quarter back when you return the cart) and you have to take your own bags and boxes unless you want to pay for the bags they have there. They have great orange pop, good bagels. Their dairy is a bit more expensive than regular stores, but who cares? Everything else is SO MUCH CHEAPER! |

Reputation: | We do the majority of our shopping at Aldi's. They have their own brands and not typically "name brand" stuff, though I tend to like the off brands as much if not better anyway. I have found the quality of their produce is better than the other grocery stores we shop at and much cheaper. They are limited in choices, but for the basics, their great. I stock up on avocados, mangos, oranges, onions and bell peppers especially. Occasionally you'll find name brand items there as well, though it's very hit or miss with what "special items" they are carrying. Having multiple dogs, we stock up on their pure pumpkin (which is an extremely healthy treat for dogs and also good for their digestive system). At around 50cents a can, you can't beat it!! Alright, I'm off...to Aldi of all places! I was only on here because I'm waiting for my husband to finish showering so we could go grocery shopping there. |

Reputation: | p.s. I bake a lot and have found that their cake mixes and cream cheese icing are better than any other brands you can find. They beat Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, etc by a long shot! Plus, their sugar, flour and oil are pretty inexpensive. |

| Senior Member | Alright, now I am officially jealous. I would kill to be able to buy pumpkin so cheap. The puppy is a pumpkin addict as am I, but its over a dollar a can here usually. |
