Reputation: | The problem here its that there is no public transport--mostly rural--- I would happily take a bus if there was one! I tried posting on a local rides share and even though I am on a major thoughway, not one person called but I am going to keep trying. |

Reputation: | Public transportation doesn't work for me as, taking the bus from home would involve a couple of transfers and a three mile walk from the final stop to work. And it would take over an hour (not including that final walk). I can drive in about 20 minutes. I've thought about trying to carpool, but the schedule that I prefer to work doesn't allow it. I'm able to mostly set my own schedule and I like to be at work early, leave early and stop at the gym on the way home. There is one guy I know who is on a similar schedule, but we live in opposite directions from one another. We will give each other rides ocassionally, in the case of car trouble or whatever, but overall carpooling just doesn't work well for me. That said, I live close enough that I sometimes walk to the grocery store and I regularly walk to and from church. It's a compromise in terms of cost and environmental impacts, but it's what works for me. |

Reputation: | As everyone knows, we are still riding horses out here in the "West", so carpooling is a moot issue. lol

Reputation: | Been pushing this with the moms and the kids. No sense in 1 mom taking 1 kid to school and back. Not only waste of gas but big time suck. Try to at least have 1 mom (or me) pick up the kids en masse. So at least this is starting to save some $$ and reduce the hassle of a 14 mile round trip. Kids love it to because they get to see friends more. Very few people carpool at work but a few take public trans.

Reputation: | In my experience, carpooling is one of those "great ideas" until you apply it to reality. Reality is understanding that being "responsible" and "dependable" are definitions relative to individual "definitions". Everybody in the car pool has their own "version"...lol "On time" can mean "within 10-20 min" to some people. Bad weather can mean "we will just be late", etc. Just watch any sit-com on television with a car-pooling scene, lol. Those ideas for the skit came from somewhere...lol. I've just not had any luck placing my integrity at the mercy of others...but that is just me.
