Default Blockbuster movies for $2 each

I know that libraries and $1 movie stores are the most frugal way to rent movies. When I lived in my last town, there was a Family Video two miles down the road that rented recent (but not newest) movies for $1 for five nights and older movies 2 for $1. I loved Family Video, but now the closest movie store by a long shot is Blockbuster.

I first signed up with Blockbuster online when I could get 5 movies for $5.99 (2 movies by mail and 3 in the store). Since the movie war with Netflix has waned, the price of a subscription has gone up quite a bit, and it appears that Blockbuster has changed their fee format to encourage fewer in-store exchanges.

Here's an interesting situation in their new fee structure. You can sign up for 2 movies by mail with 2 in-store exchanges for $9.99/mo (average = $2.50/movie + tax) or you can get 2 movies by mail without free in-store exchanges for $3.99/mo and then you can pay for your in-store movies for $1.99 each using your movie envelope as your coupon (avg = $1.99/movie + tax).

Of course if you have a lot more time, you could get a plan with more movies that would work out to an average price of less than $1.99 per movie, but who has that much time?

I figure that at least Blockbuster.com is still a heckuva lot cheaper than cable, and I love the size of the movie collection that's available.

No, the most frugal way to rent BB movies is to bring in your Netflix envelopes flaps (the ones that have your name on them) and get free 1-week rentals) - provided that they still have their Total Access program going. And the easiest way to get Netflix envelopes flaps is to sign up for a free trial with Netflix. :^D You can extend the standard 2-week-long free trial to 1 month with a promotional code. The promo codes can be easily found on sites such as slickdeals.net, fatwallet.com, etc. in a matter of minutes. Don't forget to cancel your trial when the month comes to an end, and you'll be just fine. You can open another free trial account
with another email and another debit/credit card. When you run out of cards to use, you can purchase a visa gift card at your local grocery store and use that.
It's quite easy, and with just a bit of work you get free movies whenever you want.

Hi! I like to rent our movies from the machine at the grocery store. LOL As long as you return them by midnight the next day it only costs $1. Or, you could be dumb like me, forget to turn three of them in, and after two weeks get a nice email saying they are taking $80 out of your account, but at least they let me keep the movies.

We do the $1 machine also. It's rare that we rent and even more so that we keep them for longer than 1 night. So using the $1 machine works for us.
