Hrm, I replied to this thread yesterday but it's not here, wierd one.

Gootsy thanks for the link, that project looks very interesting. I'm going to keep an itemised list of purchases too I think, and compare to yield. From now on I'll be buying seeds though, soooooo much cheaper than seedlings.

purplefdu, thanks for the info. The climbing cucumber sounds interesting, I might give that a go. Thanks for the info on the beer/soap mixture. I'm currently using an organic seaweed for fertilising and as a pest barrier. It's not doing so well on my mint though, for some reason there's an insect that *really* likes mint, lol.

We have some issues with pests, especially tomato caterpillars. I normally use a treatment of one part dish soap/1part beer in a feeder bottle to fertilize and treat for pests. Anything worse gets diacotimous earth which is also non-toxic. Not a big fan of pesticides, as the ones they use on fruit make my gums itch. The caterpillars also get picked by hand and the eggs burnt.

I don't know what a feeder bottle is. Do you spray on the leaves or feed like watering? Sorry, I am new to this
