Reputation: | I haven't seen anything yet about doing copy cat recipes rather than going out to eat. I bought one of Todd Wilbur's Top Secret Restaurant Recipes books when they first came out. We really needed to get out of our restaurant because we felt lazy habit. So instead of going out we started doing copy cat recipe night at home. When it was costing $80 to feed 4 of us at Applebees it was a real cost cutter and honestly some of our copy cat ones at home were better. It also helps when we get really bored with food in the winter. I start digging through copy cat recipe sites and find something new to try. There are also lots of them that have recipies for food mixes or spice mixes too. Just google copy cat recipes, there are bunches of sites online. I have also found recipes for long gone restaurants that had foods that were total junk food but really memorable. |

Reputation: | If you're looking for some copy cat recipes, Top Secret Recipes has a lot of recipes from a lot of restaurants. The recipes come at a small price, but certainly huge price cut from actually eating out at the restaurants. There a couple free recipes (Now I can make 7 eleven Cherry Slurpees!) =) |

Reputation: | This looks interesting, I'll have to check it out :0) I recently won Jamie Oliver's (the naked chef) latest cookery book (yayy!) and it's full of gorgous recipes he uses at home and work.

Reputation: | I have been doing so for over one year, on friday I plan what I will cook (maybe from internet, maybe from a couple of books I have) and buy everything I need. Then on sunday I prepare it, most of the times it tastes excellent! It is nice to have something different, with a good wine, and even better if you do it for someone! |

| Senior Member | We do this alot as well, especially with the soup, salad and breadsticks from Oilve Garden. Its probably the healthiest meal that fills my husband up. We have a couple real good ones, but sometimes the sauces are hard to replicate perfectly. |

Reputation: | I also like doing the copycat recipes, although only occasionally. While they are spendy to buy at restaurants, some of the ingredients aren't cheap either. Plus they can be really fattening. I'm a sucker for the knock-off of the Olive Garden Artichoke Dip! |

Reputation: | oh.my.gosh! I LOOOVE the Cheesecake Factory's Jambalaya Pasta from Top Secret Recipes!! It is the best, although it takes a while to make. I usually triple or quadruple the recipe though and then freeze it. If nothing else, make the spice that you sprinkle on the meat and use it in other recipes. I took one of my empty spice jars and filled it to the top with that mixture of spices! I don't have my book here at work, but tonight I will post it...it is good on anything! |

Reputation: | I love this stuff, but with the extra ingredients, I don't make it often. Also because in order for it not to be a nightmare to make you need the boneless chicken tenderloin cuts. Not cheap. |

Reputation: | Speaking of Jamie Oliver, wasn't he the target of some internet hoax about an alleged disgruntled staffer who decided to screw JO over by emailing copies of his unpublished cookbook to everyone? I remember getting a copy and those were actual real recipes. Good ones, too. |
