Reputation: | Hi, I have pets. lol So to protect the furniture, I will be investing in couch covers. I'm *not* the kind of person that would lay down plastic on the couch (gotta be comfy first! lol) but ya know...cats. lol So what I was wondering, does anyone happen to know if using a top bed sheet would work; I'm thinking just tossing it over the couch and tucking it down between the arms/cushions. My question about this is - what size? Just starting out, I dont have alot of sheets just hanging around the place, so before I run out and buy them, thought I would see if anyone has words of wisdom on this. I have two couches, a 'standard' 3 cushion couch and a 'standard' 2 cushion sofa. I'm thinking a king would cover the 3 cushion couch? I can always take the sheets back if not but...eh...such a hassle lol Sheets are cheaper than couch covers, and as far as I can see, will serve the same purpose - keep little paws from doing too much damage. |

Another option would be to actually slip cover the couch and cushions using sheets as the base fabric. You should be able to find some instructions online. |

Reputation: | When we needed to make couch covers, we used bedsheets and they work completely fine. They do tend to come apart, but not often when they're well tucked into the couch. Now, they normally only come off after we've washed the dog and she decides to try and dry herself on the couch. I would say definitely go for it. Besides, you have nothing to lose really. To test the size, try your current bedsheets. If they fit, go buy a cheap set in that size, or a different size depending on if they're too big/small.

Reputation: | I, too, have used flat bedsheets as couch covers. I had an older couch and the slipcovers I bought didn't fit right and cost a lot of money (wasted!). The sheets worked just fine for me and my dog. For my 3-cushion couch, I used a queen sheet and this technique ... first take off the back pillows. Tuck the sheet tightly over the seat cushions and sides leaving about half of the sheet draping over the back of the couch. The put the back cushions back on - on top of the sheet - wrap the sheet over the back cushions and tuck under and behind the seat cushions. I found this helped keep the sheet tucked in longer than just tucking everything over the top of the couch. Then I just pulled the sheet off to wash every couple weeks. Good luck! |
