Reputation: | Hi everyone. I've been tossing around the idea of a daily blog feature where I would post a cheap recipe, complete with approximate dollar cost and cooking time. Just wondering if anyone is interested and would be willing to contribute a recipe(s) to this feature. I would include a link to the blog/website of the contributor in the article featuring the chosen recipe each day. Anyways, if you are interested send me a PM with the recipe you would like to submit. I will be starting this FEB 15th, and it will be an ongoing feature. Thanks very much. |

Reputation: | Hey there! I'm always looking for creative ways to make frugal food. I found the following website: http://recipefinder.nal.usda.gov/ It's maintained by the USDA (dept of Agriculture) and you can actually search by items that you have on hand, like pasta or rice. The recipes will also tell you how much a serving costs in US$. Not sure how accurate this is, as food prices vary considerably, but at least you can compare different recipes. It seems kind of helpful for those of us looking for a new way to prepare rice & beans!

Reputation: | First recipe was posted today. I've decided to turn it into a weekly feature instead (Fridays), as I didn't want 30%+ of the blog's content to deal with food. This week is Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. Anyone who wants to submit a recipe can PM me, or contact me through the website. |

In a stock pot, use 1-32oz can of V-8 juice. any canned or fresh veggies ya like, precook root veggies. if you are going to use meat, cook it with onion, garlic and, a splash of olive oil, then add to pot. season to taste. Basil, salt, pepper. Let simmer 30 minutes on low. Serve with bread or crackers. serves 8

Reputation: | It's not fancy, but I love tomato soup with popcorn for garnish. Cheap, filling and tasty! If only my kids would eat it.... |
