Lately I've been trying to sincerely adopt the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra. Recently, because of the holiday season I've been sending a lot of packages. Instead of going out to buy packaging materials (i.e. styrofoam peanuts, padded envelopes etc.) I was able to reuse a lot of said items from packages my household has received in the past. It worked out quite well as I had more than enough peanuts for my boxes and I used those thick paper grocery bags (like the kind from Trader Joes) to wrap the parcels instead of buying a roll of brown paper from the drugstore. It was a good feeling to be resourceful and frugal. Hey, I'm gradually learning.

I made all my meals for work today. It doesn't sound like much, but 12 hour shifts can add up to 2 meals plus snacks, and over time, at the cafeteria, this can mean lots of money and lots of empty calories. Of course, this is killing 2 new years resolutions with one stone...

The totally awesome frugal thing that I did/happened to me today:

I called the cable company to do a downgrade (my current cable is $129 - crazy I know, but it also includes my internet. In Philly basic cable is like $50, crazy expensive). Anyway, I figured out that I'd downgrade to a basic package to $89. Well, lucky for me, the employee couldn't figure out how to do it! He must have been new. He felt so bad for keeping me waiting, he just gave me the company's newest promotion - the $129 package that I currently have will now only cost me $69!!!!!!!! It's for 6 months, so at the end of the 6 months I'll be downgrading. Again.

SO THEN I hopped on over to Urban Outfitters to return a christmas gift. It was a sweater that I'd worn once and it already had a hole in it. In my pre-frugal days, I probably wouldn't have just shoved it back into my dresser and forgot about it. So I took it back, exchanged it for a new one (which happened to be on SALE now) and I got the difference back in cash!

Wahooooo!!!!!!!!!
