Do you pay sales taxes on grocery purchases? Here we pay 4% state tax on groceries, bringing sales taxes up to 10% on groceries.

No tax on not-prepared food in PA where I am.

6% sales tax on groceries in South Dakota. I really resent it too. I would rather pay an income tax than a food tax and property taxes that are higher than they are in Minneapolis.
The state here has avoided an income tax while jacking taxes and fees on everything else to make up for it. I pay more taxes here than we did when we lived in Minneapolis and get less in return for what I pay in.

I have to pay provincial tax here in Ontario, but as long as the foods don't qualify as a "good" (ie. Godiva chocolates) then they're GST-free!

I live in California now, where sales tax is around %8 I believe. I don't actually do any grocery shopping though, so I'm not really sure if it applies to food as well.

No sales tax on groceries in New Jersey. Former Governer Florio got kicked out because he tried adding a toilet paper tax.

In Georgia we do pay sales tax on groceries and everything else. It was sort of a shock moving here from Ohio where the state did not tax necessities such as food and clothing.

MN does have a sales tax but not on food or clothes.
Our total combined tax bill in MN was less than our total combined tax bill in SD.
We were renting but even if we took into consideration the average MN property taxes we still would have paid slightly more in taxes in SD.
