Question Does anyone make their own shampoo/conditioner

I received a book for Christmas with some different recipes, but I haven't quite gotten it right. I'm wondering if anyone else has had success, and what their recipe is. Thanks

My mom used to mix lemon juice with aloe vera into a conditioner. The ratio is 2:1 (lemon to aloe vera). She leaves it on her hair for about 30 minutes after shampooing and rinses off.

I use diluted Dr. Bronner's soap for my hair and body. I skip the conditioner in the shower, and use a little coconut oil for my hair after I get out. This wouldn't work for everyone (Dr. B's is a little drying, so don't do this if you have curly hair), but it works really well for me.

I don't make my own but I use a shampoo bar. They seem to last much longer than bottles of shampoo and it is more natural (aka healthier) than the toxic chemicals in shampoos. I have boght many from a wahm store called Blue House Soaps.

Ooh, shampoo bars! It's not exactly frugal, but Lush makes some wonderful shampoo bars. I'm a big fan too.

I mix a bottle of Vo5 strawberry cream conditioner (very cheap on sale or with coupons) and mix it with a jar of honey in a old country crock margarine tub. My hair loves it.

I love Lush's shampoo bars. And you're right, they're not exactly frugal, but when I consider how long one lasts versus how long a bottle of shampoo lasts, it's a pretty good value. I'm going to have to look into other shampoo bars. I have curly hair, so it's tough to find the right products.

I'm researching how to make proper personal care products, in part because of my hair. It's thin and fine to begin with, and now it's drug-damaged to boot. The stuff that works is expensive and full of ingredients I don't need. The cheap stuff leaves it disastrously limp.

The raw ingredients are a bit expensive, but I'm planning to make a shampoo bar, which lasts longer so it might turn out to be economical in the long run. I'm also going to make lotion bars for my son, who has dry skin but can't stand slime of any kind on the palms of his hands.

We'll see how it goes, but I'm a bit of a DIY sort of person in general, so this will probably be fun.

I looked at doing this once and all of the ones I found used unscented shampoo or pre made shampoo base. So there really wasn't much of a point to them.

I did stumble across some coconut oil soap recipes for liquid soap, if I knew more they might be something that could be adjusted to a shampoo. Right now I use EO brand coconut oil body soap. I got 3 bottles for $15 off of Amazon. I suddenly don't have all the skin problems I used to so the coconut base and lack of chemicals must be beneficial. So I might try some DIY soaps of this kind.

My hair is rather damaged between medications I take and dying it. If I could find something that didn't strip out the color and didn't have tons of chemicals that would be great.

Smile lush

At least one of Lush's shampoo bars lathers in salt water too. I just took some on a 3 night cruise on our tiny (and very frugal!) sail boat last week.. it worked beautifully and I loved being able to wash my hair in the sea, although I did use some of our precious fresh water to rinse
