Anything in a crockpot, but my favorite is crockpot beans and I try to toss in a good ham bone with meat still on it to make a meal.

Definitely fried rice. It is one of my favorite clean-out the fridge recipes with protein and veggies. If I have meat I add meat, if not I add eggs. I can use frozen veggies, fresh veggies, or left over veggies. I can make fresh rice, use leftover rice, or even use free rice from the take-out place. I can make a lot and keep it in the freezer. The possibilities are endless...

How do you get free rice from the take-out places?

I don't get chinese carry out often but when I do, I always throw the boxes of white rice that come free with your entrees into the freezer. Perfect to make my own fried rice with in a few weeks.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread. This time of year we can use all the help we can. I've been doing a couple of things lately. I eat a lot of yogurt. I make smoothies and I also cook and bake with it and use yogurt cheese. I did the math and sprung for a Salton yogurt maker and I love it. Easy to use and the yogurt is awesome, depending on the cost of milk I save $4 or better a week and the Yogurt is awesome.

Also I've been making soups a couple of times a week. enough to eat for a meal and enough to freeze. Here is the latest one that I made. I reduced a pound of sausage to 2/3 of a pound and didn't miss the extra third. Local spinach was on sale so I used some for the soup and canned tomatoes were also on sale. I try and match what soup I cook to what fresh and or canned ingredients are available or on sale.
This soup was filling and tasted FANTASTIC you could easily add an extra cup or so of water. I like it a little spicy so I added about a half a cup of salsa that I wanted to use up:

Do you have an idea at what point in consumption of yogurt it makes sense to buy one? We go through one of those large tubs a week minimum.

Chili! Three cans of beans (make enough for lunches), an onion, can of tomatoes, 2 little cans of tomato paste, spices. Meat optional. Good served on noodles, or on hotdogs, or with tortilla chips, or by itself! Yummers!

Chili tops my list for sure! I use a $5 package of ground turkey, black and cannelini beans, corn, whole peeled tomatoes, tomato paste, an onion and some spices. It makes 6 rather large portions which I freeze and have ready whenever I don't feel like cooking. Since I use turkey, it's pretty healthy too.

Mom's noodle soup.

Made with stock saved in the freezer, chicken shredded and saved the same way and a bag of noodles (veggies if you like them).

I like making a BIG batch of burrito mixture and then freezing portions for later. Onion, garlic, rice (cooked separately and added at the end), ground turkey, a can of tomatoes and sauce each, and one bag of shredded cheese. Only costs about $10 for all of it, and like chili can be eaten a bunch of different ways!
