Reputation: | When I was quite young (like, in diapers and drooling) my dad had a yogurt maker which he used all the time to make his yogurt from scratch and add fruits for us to eat. That might be one solution for the yogurt eater. |

Reputation: | One of our favorites is shephards pie. Brown turkey or ground chuck, layer in a casserole dish with a can or two of whole kernel corn, then 1/4-1/2 lb of shredded cheese ( cheddar is better but any will do). Throw in the oven to melt the cheese approx 10-20 min. Then cover with a couple of cups of instant( or homemade) mashed potatoes. Done. Fast, easy and cheap! I also add a can of black beans to the burger to stretch it. The kids and I love it with the beans but not my husband. |

Reputation: | Crockpot spaghetti sauce. When I see Italian sausage "reduced for quick sale" I buy it and freeze 2-3 links in a ziplock bag. Remove sausage casings and brown in a skillet, then move cooked sausage to the crockpot. Saute chopped onion and garlic in the released oil. Brown a pound of hamburger. Add a 28-ounce can of pureed tomatoes and an 28-ounce can of chopped tomatoes. Add garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a touch of salt. Cook in the crockpot for at least six hours (on low). I save money on this by buying Italian sausage "reduced for quick sale" and freezing it 2-3 links to a ziplock bag. We buy beef from farmers, so it's less expensive than in the grocery store ($1.90/lb whether it's hamburger or T-bone steak). I can tomatoes that we get as leftovers from others' gardens. So the cost of a pot of this with pasta is around $6, and feeds about 8 healthy appetites. |
