Default Frugal Book Recommendations?

Does anyone have any frugal book recommendations? I read a few about a year ago from the library but haven't read any since so any thoughts would be more than welcomed. I'd like one that has value for keeping as reference material.

Any thoughts?

As a young teen, I read "Millionaire Next Door". Its been a while, and my memory is a little fuzzy, but it did open my eyes a lot about frugal living and what can come of it. At first I was a little disapointed since the questions it answers in the book were not nearly as exciting as I had hoped hehe.

I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't yet read it.

But now I usually just stick to blogs for frugal advice. There're so many and the amount of content on each blog is significant! Also more interactive since you can post in comments and such.

I just ordered one from the library... I think it's called the Complete Tightwad Gazette or something like that...

Thanks Gootsy - do you have any favourite blogs you could pass on? I don't think they mind us linking to them here.

Another vote for the Tightwad Gazette. Hours of fun - I esp. like her formulas for building muffins, casseroles etc to use up what you have on hand rather than specific ingredients. Worth tracking down.

If you are in Oz, you'll recall Anita Bell's books from a few years back, when her mortgage book got a lot of press coverage. I have a copy of Your Money - Starting Out and Starting Over that I got a few years ago. It would be a common knowledge stuff for the people on these boards, but Anita has a chatty writing style and it's a good read nonetheless.

Okay, talk about being frugal when it comes to books - maybe even borderline cheap - if you go to Amazon.com sometimes you can look inside of the book. I did that with the Tightwad Gazette. I think I read like 20 pages. At some point, they stop you because of royalties/copyrights. So then I broke down and ordered it from the library.

And everybody knows about getting books cheaply on Half.com?

Another vote for the Tightwad Gazette. Get the Complete Tightwad Gazette, with all the volumes in one. I thought some of her ideas are extreme but it puts me in a good frugal mindset when I read it. It helps me to look at things different.

Well, Zenhabits is one of my fav ones, but you probably know about that one . This one sorta introduced me to minimalism. The weekend after I started reading this site, I gave like 20 of my books to friends, and a lot of old clothes to the local thrift store.

beingfrugal.net is a pretty good one.

Yesterday I started skimming through frugalforlife.com, which's pretty good. Though it has some things that look almost exactly like what's in zenhabits.

Well, of course I'd love to recommend The Frugal Family Kitchen Book (www.amazon.com) seeing as I wrote it! It's IS full of practical advice on everything from time management to gardening, and has lots to do with nutrition, food shopping, and naturally, cooking, good recipes included!

Other than that, to be truly frugal, just keep visiting your library, checking both for new books and magazine articles since frugal is most definitely fashionable again.

And feel free to visit me at www.thefrugalfamilykitchen.blogspot.com. I just did a five-part series on staycations that you might find interesting.
