Default Frugal Steak-Eating

This is a trick I learned very early into my first year of University, when I realized that meat was expensive, and that I still had to eat it from time to time.

This steak normally isn't prominently displayed, but you can buy little packs of thinner steaks which are still of good quality for about $1.50 per steak. They're big enough for one person (a little bit thicker than sandwich steak) and extremely good! Considering the price of comparable meat ($4 for a raw chicken breast!) I ended up eating a lot of steak, which isn't the meal most people consider when they think poor university students.

Look for these steaks at your local supermarket. It's thin, but it's still good and a frugal way to get some steak in your diet!

We get this cut called a Chuck Eye Steak. They can range in size anywhere from breakfast steak sized up to large ribeye sized. They are well marbled, taste good and extremely tender. I can usually get them in packs averaging about $4 for 2 steaks.

I think the main reason we can get them is that store cuts their own meat. They only have a few of them out whenever we are in there so I am guessing they are maybe an extra cut when they cut chuck roasts or something.

Lol, we adore the thin cuts and they are often the markdowns the next day as people prefer the larger cuts. I bought four this week for $1-1.50 each for 4/5 pieces. My freezer is about to overflow.
