I was poking through the stack of seed and plant catalogues (my hubby calls them "garden pornography"), and noticed a simple wire composter, which was around $125. I kept thinking about what the shape reminded me of, and realized that it looked identical to my wire dog crates--we have a German Shepherd and a Great Dane (BIG dog crates), and they've long since taken over our beds and couch when we aren't home so I had these two huge wire dog crates with no use.

I am going to make my own composter now--this could also be done easily with chicken wire or other mesh (need aeration for the compost to decay), but if other visitors to your site have unused dog crates, this might be a good repurposing for them too. And compost is key to making huge tasty tomatoes in the garden this coming summer!
